Your Questions, Answered

Everything you need to know about osteopathy and what to expect at Soul Wellness Clinic.

Osteopathy is a hands-on approach to healthcare that focuses on the musculoskeletal system — the bones, muscles, and connective tissues — and how they affect overall health. Osteopathic practitioners use gentle manual techniques to improve function, relieve pain, and support the body's natural ability to heal itself.
Osteopathy is generally gentle and adapted to the individual when performed by a trained practitioner. Care is modified for age, comfort, medical history, and goals. New, severe, worsening, or unexplained symptoms should be medically assessed first.
Newborns can safely receive osteopathic treatment in the first days or weeks of life. The forces of labour and delivery, even in uncomplicated births, can place significant strain on a baby's skull, neck, and spine. Early treatment can help with feeding difficulties, colic, sleep issues, and ensure healthy structural development. Treatment for infants is extremely gentle — using very light touch.
Pediatric osteopathy can help with a wide range of childhood conditions including: colic and digestive issues, reflux, breastfeeding difficulties, plagiocephaly (flat head), ear infections, torticollis (neck stiffness), sleep difficulties, developmental concerns, growing pains, scoliosis monitoring, and general musculoskeletal issues.
This varies depending on your condition and goals. Many patients experience noticeable improvement after 1–3 sessions. For ongoing care, regular monthly or bi-weekly sessions are common. We'll discuss a personalised plan at your initial consultation and adjust as we go. We never recommend more treatment than is appropriate.
Osteopathy is not covered by OHIP, but many extended health benefit plans do provide coverage for osteopathic manual therapy. We offer direct insurance billing for many extended health plans — meaning we submit the claim on your behalf, so you don't have to chase reimbursement. We also provide detailed receipts for all treatments for plans not on our direct billing network. Some flexible spending accounts (FSAs) also cover osteopathy. Contact us to confirm your coverage before your appointment.
Your first appointment includes a comprehensive health history intake (approximately 15 minutes), a postural and structural assessment, and hands-on treatment. For adult patients, we discuss your health history in detail. Please wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. First appointments are typically 60–75 minutes; follow-up sessions are 45–60 minutes.
Osteopathy focuses on the whole body, using gentle techniques to restore balance, improve circulation, and support natural healing. Chiropractic care primarily targets the spine, using quick adjustments to correct alignment and enhance nervous system function. Osteopathy is ideal for all ages, including babies, while chiropractic is often used for pain relief and posture.
